Sad event
Well, I just feel I need to share this and those that are religious, please say a prayer for our soldiers.
As I came back from ATO (vacation / leave) I heard that the camp I had been staying in and was scheduled to be closed as of the 1st of July, was attacked by Iranian made missiles. This was the first attack since it had been built over 4 yrs ago of any significance. 3 soldiers were killed and I heard 14 wounded from 4 rockets, 3 went off, one was a dud, but they literally blew apart many buildings. I had worked with these men the last five months and knew all three of them, two I knew very well. I served 20 years in the army and lost some friends to accidents, but it is very sad when they die and they were going to be leaving the base to the Iraqi's the next couple of days. All of us Civilian Police Advisers had left the camp a week before (2 weeks for me, since I had headed out for vacation) and my new duty station is Camp Delta. Ed |

My son is a Lt.Col. in the Air Force stationed at the airport in Iraq. He is at last comming home this month. I't sad to see these "Son's of America"(Ladies also) still dying in a 10 year old war just doing their duty.

I absolutely hate it when politicans, from either side use our troops as pawns. Our troops have accomplished what they were sent there to do, now it's time to bring them home, not next year, to try to get re-elected, NOW. Maybe I'm wrong, I'm sure Ed can shead some light on this subject. God bless our young men and women in the Miliitary on this great holiday that allows my family to be free and sleep safe in their beds tonight.

Ed, I learned early on as a Soldier to accept the fact that not all of your Friends will make it home. I joined on the buddy program with a very good Friend. He was dead by the middle of boot camp. The next best Friends I made it from AIT..went to RVN with and a month later dead, it didn't end there. The list is long...and as many of you know even after returning to the World..MANY people I was close to for 40 years after the war are gone. It is a sad part of life. You don't get used to it. Grieve and remember them..the good times, conversations, what they looked like, who they were. Try to keep that in your mind..remember they were brothers in arms. They were there as you are today..trying to make a difference. Not as aggressors hell bent on destruction but building a better World for people they will never know or maybe understand. They gave all they had. Be proud you knew them.

Thanks all, I am saddened that we lost folks so near to us giving up the base. Not sure it makes sense, but then, does this war make sense? Or any war most of the time...
Doug, your remarks were how I feel. Ed |
