Default 9mm DWM Luger question?

I have a matching 1917 DWM Luger all in excellent shape (I got this gun in the 50's from a ww2 vet for 45 bucks.) and the entire gun appears to be correct. It all looks right except the inner surface of the receiver, (The entire inner surface where the toggle rides) is all uniformly lightly pitted right back to where the pin goes in. Any idea's as to why the bore, the entire gun is very clean but the inside of the receiver has this erosion on it. Has anyone seen a gun similarly like this?

Default

I had a consulting job at the hospital in Winterhaven

I would say, no, I have never seen it. Best guess is that someone used corrosive ammo and didn't clean that part, or that part got wet for a few days and didn't get wiped down.
