On the other hand, some in the gun resale business criticize forum members for making lowball purchases off new posters.
I'm not sure where to start there... dju |

Please, my experience is that forum members consistently make fair offers after the piece has been evaluated by the group.
Gun shop owners are not always as principled. |

This forum has a MUCH HIGHER standard than others. New posters don't know that and treat us like any other forum. I was merely making a point about new posters and their behaviors/rationalizations. For people who've been here for a while, the LugerForum does not need defending... the standard speaks for itself. Jack

I find it interesting that a gun shop owner came here for an estimate...Don't they have Blue Books, price guides, whatever??? And I'm guessing he referred the buyer to this site & this thread to support his price...
I don't visit Jan's site or the P38 site as much as I should...Do they get a lot of requests for estimates??? I do visit ARFCOM/Retro, and they get bombed with "what's this worth?" threads/posts... ...And those parts/rifles usually end up on GB pretty quickly...

I am a serious collector of custom knives and frequent two boards devoted to that passion (addiction?). Sometimes things get a little out of hand and unfortunately courtesy and respect take a back seat to other personal agendas. I have been lurking here for a couple weeks, reading just about every thread, although obviously not every post in every thread.
It is perfectly obvious to anyone who wants to take the time to learn about Lugers and pay attention to what you are saying, that this is a very classy group of people of integrity who know what they are talking about, do it in a consistently polite and respectful manner, and are quite willing to share their considerable knowledge with folks who don't know so much but are willing to expose our inexperience by asking what are sometimes quite elementary questions. (Which is why I am reading and learning as much as I can before I ask my first one) When I know more about this incredibly fascinating piece of history and gun making, I too plan on asking what I hope are reasonably intelligent questions, but in the meantime I will continue to "go to school" on you very knowledgeable bunch of gentlemen. If I ever had anything to sell I would not hesitate to offer it here. Regards, Doug a/k/a "silverknife' |
