New Luger Artillery with holster

Hello all. My father in law received this pistol and holster from his father when he returned from WW I. I've attached some pics. I'll try the white box technique if better pics are desired. The numbers do not match on the magazine and stock. Look forward to your impressions. The impression in the holster is hard to read but the date is 1915 and I believe it says J F Gluden and Berlin underneath.

Welcome to the forum Kelley!

What I can see so far is that it is a 1917 (yr made) DWM (manufacturer) that should be in 9mm luger.

So, all other parts, internal etc, match the last two of the serial number?

Overall, it looks like a very nice piece.

Is the stock number there or blank? is there a loading tool in the little pouch on the holster?

w123 - Your arty has a fine tune rear sight but from the first pic it appears to have a drift-adjustable front sight [not fine tune]...

Very nice looking pistol and rig...I'm drooling even if Ed's not...

There is a number and suffix on the stock but it does not match the luger. The visible numbers all match on the pistol. I'll try for better pictures but the finish is at least 95% blue. Grips are not chipped. I'm not sure about the significance of the distal site but I'll keep reading and I'm hopeful someone else can comment about this detail. Unfortunately there is no loading tool or rod with the holster.

I believe that in 1917 DWM made a transition from basic adjustable rear and drift adjustable front sights to fine adjustable rear and front sights.

Looks like your rear sight is one of the fine adjustable ones and the front sight is one of the drift ones.

My 1917 Artillery has the basic and drift sights.

An all matching Luger is more valuable and collectible. A Luger that has never been refinished is more valuable and collectible. An Artillery Luger with the complete "Rig" is much more valuable and collectible.

Other way around, 1917 saw the phasing out of fine-tune sights both front and rear.
