David,

Playing in this field, a few gavel auctions need to be monitored, even if buying nothing from them. They are:

GMA: http://www.gregmartinauctions.com (this is the one with quite a few Lugers listed now)
RIA: http://www.rockislandauction.com
JJA: http://www.juliaauctions.com
JCD: http://www.jcdevine.com
LJA: http://littlejohnauctionservice.com
B&B: http://www.bonhams.com

But nowadays, two proxies make life easier. Not only well known U.S. auctioneers go there, even European Hermann Historica goes there:

http://www.proxibid.com
http://www.artfact.com

Hope this helps. Registration is free.

Alvin,

Not sure I follow you! I buy from most of the auctions you listed. You have to be carefull, but overall they are pretty trustworthly. Especially Greg Martin, I have bought some amazing guns there at a great price. The fun thing about auctions is the prices can go either way and sometimes you can end up with a real deal. Regarding proxibid, I frequently use it, but I try to bid directly with the auction company to same on commission. If you haven't checked June's auction out with Greg Martin, you reallly should! Good luck!

Dave

Dave, I just realized your first name is David as well.

I mainly collect Mauser pistols (my fund is very limited, so have to limit the scope as well). I did check GMA regularly. Thanks.

The big headache of gavel auction is hard to return if things going south. And for a single piece or two..... I don't know how many people really flying there to preview those. GMA offers extra photographying service excellently. I have to praise them on this point -- they have never failed offering great pictures upon request in my experience.
