1914 DWM magazine question?
Hello, my name is Chris and Im new to this forum, and forums in general. I have a question about a DWM magazine. If a magazine has the matching numbers to the pistol, but no prefix and the pistol does have a prefix after the numbers, is the magazine still considered matching? It is an original magazine from the era, and the Luger is a 1914, in excellent all matching condition, including the grips. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks

The proper magazine will have a serial number that exactly matches that on the front of the frame. It will be an exact match including the SUFFIX.

A serial number with no suffix indicates that the gun was manufactured in the first block of that calendar year. Suffixes were added to the following blocks of guns for the calendar year. The next calendar year this process was started over.
Given that there were about 10,000 guns in each block, it is interesting that your magazine has a matching serial number. What are the odds that an exact matching serial numbered no suffix magazine is with your gun? If the magazine is original to your gun, some inspector slipped up IMHO. |

"Some inspector slipped up"
I think it more likely that this mag has been sanded and renumbered. Regards |

It's also possible that a matching numbered mag with no suffix, may have been added to your PO8 by the Weimar Police. These will usually have a #1,2 or 3 stamped above the serial. TH

Wow, guys, thanks for the helpful, information. I just bought this 1914 Luger, and I still got 6 days to go fot the 10 day wait. I just realized that I didnt check the serial # to see if it had a suffix, but I know the magazine doesnt. It is an original mag, with nickel finish, and wood bottom, that fits the gun like it was made for it, and is in like new condition, so I dont know. I guess I'll find out when I pick it up. I bought it in a hurry, because too many other people were interested, and I forgot if it had a suffix on the frame. Anyway, thank you gentleman, for the info.

stuttgart, you should post some good photos of the serial numbers, both gun and mag. From what you have told us I would bet that the mag is not original to the gun.
