P.c.98.
Folks,
I have just acquired a 1915 DWM luger, which although somewhat lacking in finish is in good order. All parts are matching except for the sear body assembly. It is of a different number but looks to be about as aged as the rest of the pistol. The sear bar assembly appears that it may have an Erfurt proof on it, a C/m. The grip strap is marked P.C. 98., I was curious to know what the unit mark is and why it appears to be struck out. I would appreciate any information that is forth coming. Thanks, barr |

I think that the P.C.98 is a Police unit stamp. A photo or better some photos would help to find it out.

Unit mark on DWM 1915
Klaus,
I have attached an image of the unit mark, as well as other images of the gun. It is a 1915 DWM s.n. 362g. There is also an image of the sear bar assembly and the mark, which looks like a crown/m, but I'm not sure. Please let me know if there are other views that would help. Thanks, barr |

barr,
The marking may be from the police of the city of Chemnitz in Saxony but this is far from certain (HWIS pp. 221-222).

Barr, The grips shown in your photo appear to be typical Russian rework replacement. This may be where the Erfurt replacement sear was installed. I may have the correct numbered DWM sear; what number do you need? TH

1915 Luger mark?
Ok, guys thanks for your thoughts on this beast.
Do you think that the crown over m is an Erfurt proof? I wasn't sure and just through that out there, because it is similar to some of the Erfurt proofs. The grips are marked 62 on the inside and have what looks like a W mark, but aren't imperial marked. I'd need a sear assembly marked 62, Tom, if you have one. If this were a reworked police issue could the replacement sear assembly have been done at that time and would they have used an Erfurt sear assembly? There is no sear safety on the gun, but it does have the hold open and the mag. no. doesn't match the rest of the gun. Thanks again for the help. I'm sorry about the photos not being real good, for some reason when I uploaded them they became smaller although they weren't over the limit, not sure what caused that. barr |

Barr, Unfortunately I don't have the #62 sear or HO that you need. Have both with #61. Close but no cigar. TH

A little more info
Thanks lugerdoc for looking, I just needed the sear assembly, the HO is on the gun and marked correctly.
Just a little more info. It came with a N. Burghard - Pasing - marked holster with no tool. No date on the holster. The tool pouch had been cut out of the holster flap, other than that the holster is in good condition. After looking at my 1918 Erfurt, I don't believe that the crown/m is an Erfurt proof. It must have some other meaning, perhaps proofed when it was changed out? Anyway, if I can provide you folks with more info, please let me know. Thanks again for everything, barr |

Barr, your crown/M is a C/U and we find it often from 1914 on (only) ERFURT Lugers. Itīs an Erfurt proof!
N. Burghard Pasing was a holster maker. Burghard made holsters as a Subunternehmer (I donīt find an English word for that) for the AWM. So it seems that your Luger was in one of the 3 Bavarian Armys. Regards Klaus Last edited by klaus 3338; 11-20-2009 at 11:02 AM. |

Klaus, "Subunternehmer" would be a subcontractor or jobber.

Bavarian Army?
Klaus,
Thanks for clarifying the c/u and for the info on the holster and pistol. You say the gun was probably assigned to one of the three Bavarian army units. Do you have more info on these army units? Were they paramilitary police or actual army? Since there is no date on the holster, do you feel it is of the right time frame for this pistol? Again, I thank you folks, and appreciate your time and efforts. I have several reference books, but a lot of the information that you folks provide is not in any of my books. One would have to have a very extensive library to be able to provide all of the information available on this forum. A great bunch of well informed folks. Again I thank you. barr |
