Help identify

Please help identify this firearm. It belonged to a friend who just passed away and her sister is now the owner. I have done some research but the first thing is I believe it is re-blued which then devalues it down to "shooter". The proof markings barely show the eagle which must have worn off but the blue is still there?? Some blueing is shiny and smooth and some is dull like parkerized and scuff marks are evident such as from crocus cloth. The grips sound like plastic. Also the "1916" on the chamber, the first "1" is worn also. The photo with the proof marks is the most accurate as far as color. It looks like an eagle proof on the left side forward of the toggle. The serial number is 9XXX.
It has two clips, one is silver with wood and the other is black with nylon neither has a number. Caliber 9mm.
It has a holster with only one illegible circular marking inside the flap that may say "1916" in the circle. No tool in the pouch.
I would like my friend to know the value and perhaps some firearm history

Hello, welcome to LugerForum.
It looks like you have a 1916 DWM. You need to ascertain as to whether or not all the parts have matching #'s.
Value depends a lot on what part of the country you live in. Here in South Alabama, shooters can bring $900 - $1200. Some on this forum say in other parts of the country, shooters go as low as $600.
Someone will be along shortly with far more knowledge than I on your friends Luger. This is a great and helpful bunch of guys.

Your assumption is correct. It has been buffed and reblued. As Derek states, if all of the numbers match, it will help ,but it would still be classified as a shooter.

If the holster is in good condition, no rips, cracks, tears and stitching is original and sound? It would have some value.

So far all the numbers have matched but I haven't taken it all the way down. I fired one round, no problems there.
The holster is very good, old but sturdy, stitching is sound. The pocket for the tool is coming un-stitched. It also has a leather thong which by pulling facilitates the removal of the weapon from the holster.
I am in Colorado by the way.
If it had not been blued what would the value be approximately?

Here's a link to Simpson Ltd. Their prices are about 15-25%+ higher than most(some believe too high), but they have a good selection and you can get a general idea.

Bob, Not a bad looking pistol. As Ron and others say..the finish will not add to the value. Other than mismatched parts a reblue hurts the pistol the most.

Your holster...Post a photo. Part of the value resides in the holster.
