Thanks for your posting. I already thought that the advise of the gun dealer is a bad idea. The P.08 was not created to use this high powered ammo. But the gun dealer ment, that the WW2 ammo was even used for the MP 40 and the mechanismn of a luger needs hot ammo.
I had a friend using S&B ammo, he blew off the upper part of the gun. This happend in the late 1980s.
I used Remington 115 grain ammo (FMJ), this ammo worked just fine without any problems.
This is my first Luger and I just shot it last week for the first time.
Thanks,
Andy

I have a 1937 S/42 and i am scared to use modern ammo. A gun dealer recommanded 9mm +P+ ammo, bacause the ammo because of the mechanismn of the luger.
but I am really scared to blow off the gun.
Hi:

Original DWM ammo was 123 grains at 1,076 fps, through the late 1930's. I've never seen ANY original German ammo listed with hotter specs. anywhere in the original German texts, never.

Hot 9X19 ammo came into commercial circulation much, much later. The "needs hot ammo to work" myth is just that, pure myth!!

If you want to beat your Luger's to death, then use the hot ammo as suggested by many of the "experts" out there.

Hi,
you are right, that's what I thought. I could not imagine that modern +P+ ammo would be a good idea for a gun, designed for a lower load.
