Default PC over the edge..

I was checking for an argument in favor of gun ownership to convince an anti-gun aquaintance, and to use in future arguments.

Oregon is a Concealed Carry "Shall Issue" state. So, I was checking crime rate comparisons with other states that do not allow CCLs.

I came across a story about a home invasion in the northern part of the state. The farther north you go (Multnomah County), the more anti-gun it gets. The Portland Port Authority Police (Multnomah County) have, in the past, arrested people who were carrying and have valid CCLs, which is in violation of state law. They refuse to recognize State Issued CCLs.

A segment of the story:

"Anthony Patrick Cooper, 25, is a corrections client and has prior arrests for delivery of a controlled substance; delivery and possession of a controlled substance; robbery; burglary; menacing and dangerous weapons in Multnomah County. Cooper is identified as the roommate who was being assaulted violently by the intruding suspects and was shot by his roommate (Harris) during the altercation."

A "Corrections Client"??? I guess it would assault his sensibilities to call him the criminal, dirt bag, scum ball that he is. In my part of the state he would be called something entirely different.

If it wasn't so sad, it would be comical...

Being PC is much more important than the truth nowadays. You're right it is very sad. One has to wonder how far it will go before we say enough is enough.

Ron, Their use of the word client is sadly mistaken. A client is someone who contracts for a service and PAYS for it. People like this are blood sucking leeches and pay for nothing. Of course the same people who wrote Corrections Client"??? are those who elected a US President who would Kow Tow to the Saudi King.
It's comical untill someone loses an eye!
Thanks for the funny story!

I'm glad I live in Texas where a criminal is still a criminal. I wonder how long that will last.

That's the one...Yesterday I saw a vidio of Oblama bowing and scraping..hovering if you will.. with his head at the Kings crotch level. The white house has tried to explain this away as nothing but this submissiveness is certainly not expected of the head of the Free World and is a huge gaff.
Now I see Herr Bush is simply holding the Old King's hand helping him accross the street...No harm in that? Any good Boy Scout would do the same...
Inspecting the old boy's fly and exposing the back of your neck to someone known to wear a dagger?
I don't think I want a President who would do that.

Ron, I guess this country boy is just used to plain ole English...Looks like we don't speak the same language.
Bowing before your betters is a tad different than holding hands. Having seen my share of the World I know that holding hands in many countries is seen differently than we see it. Scraping and fawning is the same everywhere.

Jerry has it right. The hand holding thing is a gracious observance of diplomatic protocol for peer to peer (head of state to head of state) custom in the Middle East. The bowing to another head of state by the president (note lower case) of the United States is a horrible breech of protocol and is an act of subservience in any culture. I am embarrassed for our country. A nod of the head is acceptable in the Middle East or Japan, but a crotch level bow is disgraceful.

"but a crotch level bow is disgraceful."

So, Abdullah's testicles are on his chest?

I think they were in his throat when "W" told him we were going into Iraq and we didn't care what His Tribal Majesty thought.

Looks like we headed back to the Jimmy Carter days when the world had complete disrespect for the USA. I clearly see trouble to come with this new President.

Fact: The Saudi's fully supported the Invasion of Iraq, and the over throw of Hussein. They deemed him a threat.

Fact: George W Bush alienated and promoted disrespect from more of our former allies in the last eight years, than any President in history.

Holding hands and kissing is a sign of respect, but a simple bow is a disgrace? I guess it depends on your point of view.

I started this thread on a totally different note. However, there are those who can't seem to post a reply without interjecting a political sarcasm. So, it kind of went south in a hurry.

I make every attempt at leaving politics and religion out of my postings, out of respect for the beliefs of other members. I can only assume that it's not a reciprocal courtesy.

Good day gentlemen...

Ron, You have piqued my interest. Apparently you are of the belief that bowing to a foreign soverign by a U.S. president is fine. I think you are flat out wrong. If this is the crux of our discussion I am very much interested in why you believe this to be acceptable behavior.
So far the sum total of your side of the argument is that it's Bush's fault and the bow wasn't low enough to be a disgrace to all living Americans. This is at odds with the facts. American diplomatic protocol does not allow for a sitting president to be submissive when meeting other heads of state. The Bush blame game is a lame tactic of the liberal left and frankly sir that ship has sailed.
I can tell you one reason why he did it...King Abdullah is the second highest authority in the muslim hierarchy.
So please..let me know a rational argument why this is good for America.

Ron,
You have rightly called me out on a bit of an exaggeration…it wasn’t crotch level…but it was much more than a nod. I was more than a little put off by that faux pas and reacted strongly. I do not wish to alienate you, I consider you a friend and colleague. I just cannot accept such an unseemly act as having no impact on the prestige of the office of the head of our nation. Our flag dips to no other and our president bows to none.

This kind of nonsense is ok, but historical discussion of Hilter's medals is not? (see thread: "an extremely insightful statement from a russian woman concerning the wwII battles in")

I don't get it (and I don't want it explained to me)

Ed, I think you should shut this one down before old friends get at each other in a disrespectful way.

As you know I am slightly to the right of Darth Vader in my politics, I think Mr Woods is a liberal :-) and generally opposed to shutting threads down, but this one is on the road to perdition

I have to agree with Heinz... this thread is headed nowhere that will benefit the membership in any way.

Consider it CLOSED.
