1920 commercial 7.65 New guy bitten

I'm a new guy. But the bug has bit! Damn, I don't need another expensive hobby! Do I??? I picked up some Lugars at an estate sale, knowing nothing about them.

I have a copy of A. Davis std catalog, and have been studying.

I have what looks like a 1920 DWM commercial in 7.65. All the numbers match. Looks like it just came outta the box except for some rubbing on the trigger plate.

But a couple of questions. On the front left of the breech block is a crown N stamped over what could be the Weimar bird or the crown eagle. Possible?

Also the toggle group rear pin is rather loose,grooved, and un numbered. Is this usual?

FN, Many parts on commercial lugers are unnumbered, including the rear toggle axel. Other parts may be numbered inside (eg: extractor, center toggle link, etc). TH

Gawd, I wish I could come across some at an estate sale!

So what else did you get?

Davis' book is okay, but has some inaccuracies in it, not a bad guide, but don't use it as an all encompassing book.

If on the left, you'd see a proof of a Crown N, on the right for a military you would see acceptance markings and proofs. Pictures would help a lot on a question like this, as its just a guess on our part.

BTW, it is Luger, as in Georg Luger

Umm. Well. It looks like a Lugar... Smells like a Lugar. dunno yet about sounds.

Pictures of this mark would be difficult. It's sooo small I have to use a 10x to see it.

What other bookd can you recommend?

Can't look like a lugar, no such thing that shoots, just a senator.

Here are some suggestions;

*use the search feature
*go to the FAQ
*Read the stickies at the top of the different "threads" and you'll see lots of info, to include one that says Book Recommendations
*for close ups, I use my digital camera set to macro, then I look on the screen of my monitor and see it a lot better than my 49 yr old eyes

9mm. Chamber stamp 1920 30xxa under the barrel, and in fine print 882. acceptance mark? DMW toggle. All numbers match except the breech block is one number off, the last digit.

From A. Davis, I think a "Military & Police dated, army. but might/could be one of the reworks????
Strange stamps on this one too. Breech block left side is bird and crown breech block proof. Number XX minus one, under that. On rt side is very small, looks like a crown RC, then under that is a crown B with a tail. Frame, in the recess behind the takedown latch is an N at the front and an A at the rear. Under the barrel , in front of the lug is an O. then possible the crown bird again. Very weak and half missing. Left side of lug from underneath is a V, rt. side is a something weak, then a J and further aft is an L. Rt. side of the slide has three of the birds with ArA4 under it. No Weimar marks anywhere. This one is in probably good condition, some holster wear.

Got any ideas?
