P.04 Type 1 Holster
Good Evening Members/Users:
A few weeks ago a P.04 Model 1906 "Grip Strap" was up for bid on Auctionarms and was presented here for "criteak". It was offered with a Type 1 Navy holster that looked pretty familiar to me and I knew I saw one like it before, especially from the back. I looked through my holster inventory and found this. Here is a P.04 Navy Type 1 holster with period belt loop conversion. I've owned a Type 1 that was period belt converted but it still had the blocks. I subsequently sold that holster. Still's, "Imperial Lugers", 1991, makes reference to a 1917 order for belt loop Navy holsters and makes mention of the issuance of straps for older holster conversion. Can anyone reveal more about this 1917 order to the Imperial German Navy?

Maker mark located in the same general area as the Type 1 that was offered for sale. Different makers though.

Joe, Very nice holster! I love the photo too...Do you think it would be possible to scan closer to see his belt buckle? I would love to see it.
Looks like he is wearing a double magazine pouch too.... Can anyone reveal more about this 1917 order to the Imperial German Navy? I cannot answer your question but I suspect it might be in reference to the adaptor straps for the stock block so the holster could be belt worn without removing the stock block or installing a permanant belt loop. One of my favorite photographs, which I have framed and hanging in "The Bunker" shows two young matrosen, cap tallies to the Unterseebooten-halbflotilla, with one wearing a Type 1 rig with a leather waist belt; the other wearing the Type 2 with what appears to be a fabric web belt.
The picture puts the lie to the commonly held belief that Type 2 holsters were exclusively for Seebattalions in Flanders. Tom A |
