Looked at some handguns yesterday.

I met one of my cigar store buddies yesterday to look at some handguns he's accumulated over the years. Helping him figure out what they are, what they might be worth.

One was a 1916 DWM Luger in very nice condition, with most bluing still there, strawing there, and what looked like fire bluing on some of the small parts. Nice looking pistol. First WWI Luger I've been able to examine. Does it sound correct that a 1916 DWM would have the regular bluing, straw finish, and some fire bluing on small parts? Guessing it's worth $1500 to 2000.

There was a Remington 1875 revolver in good working condition but with the finish gone gray. An original revolver from way back, not a modern reproduction. No idea what it is worth.

Another was a nice looking 1911A1 auto redone as a target shooting gun. Started life as a Springfield Armory .45 of some sort, serial NM 4086x. Front and back of grip checkered/stippled, also a little of front of trigger guard. Larger mag and slide release buttons. Round hammer. Extended and beveled to help get magazines in. Target trigger. Bomar sights. Front end has something added for weight and to direct muzzle flash upwards (compensator ?) and help with recoil? Barrel in ejection port marked Clark .45 Auto. Twenty or thirty year old target or bowling pin pistol? No idea what it's worth.

Then there was a pimpolicious Colt Government Model 1911A1, serial 27022x-C looking like new with beautiful deep lustrous blue finish but with mother of pearl grips. Mother of pearl grips, was that ever a factory option? About 1954 or 1955?

Then there was a Colt Government Model 1911A1, serial C 9121x, gone gray and with two areas of rust and pitting on left of slide. About 1917 maybe? Given to him by a friend who said he used it in Vietnam.

The gentleman has some automatic weapons (legally owned) and is wondering what they go for now. Assuming nice condition, any ballpark values?

Long post, but it's raining here in St. Louis again after record rainfall for March. Would appreciate any comments about the weapons. Hope it's something enjoyable to read and think about.

Also check Simpson's Ltd., Gunbroker.com and AuctionArms.com for similar guns to determine market value.
