Need info on a Portuguese luger
I know a collector that is selling part of his collection one of which is a Portuguese luger. It is a reblue and the only markings on it are DWM and the single proofs on it. Sorry for the quality of pics they are from the seller. Just trying to get a price and see a ballpark of what its worth. I was thiking about $500-$600 range. He also has the nicest 1945 enfield sniper I have ever seen. It has never been fired in the orignal wooden crate and is all matching.

It is a 1906 Portuguese Army. Since the only marking on top of the gun that you can see is the DWM, the intertwined "M2" royal crest over the chamber has been ground off. It is a relatively scarce gun, too bad it has suffered such indignities. Your price range is a fair estimate since it has been reduced to shooter category.

Steve,
Would you mind sharing the serial number. Some Members are tracking commercial luger serials. BTW...does the magazine have a wooden bottom with the triangle/circle stamping in the wood ? If yes, that might be an original magazine and based on its condition, might be worth $ 200 or more just by itself... I was happy to pay $ 250 for a really mint magazine about 1.5 years ago for my M2 Luger... |

There is no serial number on it that I can find. I have not taken it apart yet to check for any on the internals. . I will get a close up picture of the magazine, but it is a blank wood based magaine. I suspect the magazine is not original though.

Just a minor point...the M2 is a contract Luger with its own serial number range, so does not fit in with the commercial data. That said, it is always nice to know serial numbers for any category (some of us track odd stuff!). It is really too bad that this one has been totally "sanitized" and not even the serial number is available.

Luscioman,
your magazine should not have a serial number on it. It will only have a small circled triangle on the wood bottom and that could be put in lightly. So look close. Big Norm |

Hey Norm,
Consecutive numbers...that's neat! Are they similar in condition? Ron

Both guns look pretty good with 2870 being the better of the two. Very nice original strawing with only normal wear on the muzzle and side plate on that gun. The grip safety has the number 07 and so has the right grip. (right numbers, wrong sequence) Left grip not numbered. Matching four digit number under barrel and front of frame. 70 is on trigger and locking bolt. Light wear on grips.
The 2871 gun shows little more wear on the straw and on the left rabbit ear under the thumb safety. All serial numbers on the metal of the gun are appropriate as is the left grip. The right grip has a small dent but checkering is good and the number on that one is 17. Right numbers, wrong sequence again. Neither of the guns has any pitting and the circled triangle proof mark is in the same location on both guns (left side of frame and under toggle lip on the rear of the gun). Original mags with both guns (no serial number, but proof marked). Very nice price of $2800 for both guns (including shipping) from Collectors Firearms in Houston, Texas in 2003. That was a good buy, even in those olden days. Big Norm |

After checking this luger again there is one number located inside the frame near the take down lever and its 08. The left side grip was marked 36 and there was no marking on the firing pin.

Luscioman,
I didn't see a number where you mentioned in either of my guns. Perhaps I am looking in the wrong spot. I do have the appropriate two digit numbers on the locking lug of the receiver on both of my guns. Big Norm |

Big Norm I am 90% certain there is the "delta" mark on the mag. It is very faint and there are scratches near it but I can make it out. I will try to take a pic of it but it has proven to be very hard. I did actually pick this one up from the seller but only because I had to buy part of his collection.

Could anyone post a picture showing the difference between a 1900, 1906 and a P-08 set of grips?
