Default Costs of Lugers?

OK, I know that it's going to run a wide gamut: but what should one expect to pay for a shooting Luger? And what sort of a range of prices are we talking about for collector Lugers?

$650-750 for shooters, it is possible to stumble onto one for less, I found a reblued one locally I am going to pick up this weekend for $400 OTD. Watch the for sale forum here, they come up from time to time and don't last long.

There would be a low end and hi-end collector range starting at the low end for around $1,000 and running into the many thousands for the serious pieces.

Happy hunting

Jim, I normally tell folks $500-$650 for a shooter, but you seldom see one for less than $600 (gun shops always feel a luger is "valuable)...

Collector price is higher than that... I think most prices are $800-$1200, and then as they go up in condition or "rarity" then prices go up.

I've been scanning GunsAmerica, GunBroker and AuctionArms these past few days trying to dig up some Artillery Luger items and I've noticed that many guys are trying to sell their shooters at incredible prices. Since when is a shooter grade, chromed, 1920 commercial worth $1,200?

Insane...

Its a great time for collectors to get rid of their 'mistakes'.

Steve
I can somewhat sympathize with you on that one, especially when I get a date with a beautiful woman.

I might mention that a mismatched half 1917 and half 1938 Artillery in really good condition was bid up to 1750 recently on GB.... just FYI.

Don't "discount" the law of supply and demand and its effect on market prices.

Luger prices seem to be climbing rapidly. I just bought a .30 1920 for $700 and the seller wanted $800.

I think this will continue while the economy is doing well.

Default Prices for .30 Lugers?

Do .30's tend to sell for more, less, or is there no pattern, compared to 9mm's?

I know that 9mm has become about the most popular centerfire cartridge in the US today. What about .30 Luger ammo, is it commercially made? Expensive?

30 luger (aka 7.65mm) pistols generally sell for less, mainly because the ammo is 2-3x the cost 9mm...

Question 9mm v. .30

Thanks, Ed.

Hmm....maybe it would make sense to get one 9mm as a shooter, and concentrate on .30's as collector pieces.

Jim,
Collector value is largely independent of caliber. Shooter value, on the other hand, favors 9mm.

You guys want lugers dirt cheap? Come to Canada! I bought mine, although a shooter for $450, That's $382 american. There is this all matching 1917 Luger for sale at my local gun show for about $550 canadian and the condition is exelent. And he is willing to bargain! I might buy it yet, but I am more into WW2 Lugers or 1930's at least..

That's great for you but getting that little bugger across the border might be somewhat challenging for most of us.

Default Purchase problems, too maybe?

I'm also not sure about the legality, under Canadian law, of an American making a pistol purchase there.

Anyone know?

Jim, If it's military issue, it's probably not importable, but if police or commerical, it can probably be importeded by a licensed importer or FFL dealer and an individual would have to do the normal paper work with him as well as paying an extra couple of hundred dollars for shipping and import fees. Default Still cheap in Canada?

Thanks, TH. These extra fees would surely cut into any savings you were making by buying it cheaper in Canada. Of course, they could still be worth your while, depending on the differential of the sales prices in the first place.
