S-42 1938 price check ?

Hello, I am a new member !

My friend has S-42 Luger dated 1938, with black plastic grips (so called black widow) , non maching pistol, the frame has 1 number and other parts are matching. I supose that frame is made later during the war.

The condition is very good.

What is the value of this gun ?

Value depends on where you live.

As non matching, it is worth $300-$600 in the US. Without pictures it is impossible to be anymore exact than this.

Oh I forget, it is navy slide and barrel, as you can see.

Welcome to the forum

Where I live it would be hard to sell it for more than 300USD, the question is where you live.

The grips looks nice and crisp, I would consider cleaning them gently. Is the magazine original? ..hard to tell from the pictures.. I guess that would boost the value some.

Why do you say it has a navy slide and barrel?

The condition is fairly rough actually, in the USA it would sell for around $450-$550, maybe a bit mroe.

The frame was made in 1941 or 42
The top half is most likely 1938

The eagle is a Mid Army test proof and the E/63 and E/83 are acceptance stamps.

The gun is a parts gun w/after market mag, if the grips are originial the total value would be $500 to $600

If at all possible, I would like to see some closeup clear focus photos of both insides and outsides of the grips. These do not appear to be original "black widow" type bakelite grips. There is no visible border on the grips bottom

Thought they where dirty wooden grips at first glance.. Think you are right John, doesn't look like BW grips.

This type of magazine, I can't place it in P08 production? When was this type used? I thought alloy buttom magazines were the only ones in use on late 30s Mauser 08s?

If the grips are repro, no one would have a clue. The magazine pictures are too dark to tell, although it appears to be one of the newer repro navy mags (if it is the same one in the pictures in the luger itself above).

Have no idea.. but from the poor fitting close to the grip screw, they could be taken from a non-firing replica.
