new member and new to Lugers

well i always wanted one and the closest i came was a late war P38,finally i decided to take the plunge

its a 1939 code 42,all matched except the mag,but the mag appears to be period as it has the correct eagle 63 proof on it

bore is on the dark side (not a black hole) but has no pitting and strong crisp rifling

has a small patch of light pitting here and ther but it appears to be a nice honost unmolested example,and im most happy with my purchase,and it most certainly wont be my last

to be honost i prefer the worn look,even on my K98's for two reasons,i know for sure (easier anyways)its never been messed with (bubba prettyi'n it up),and it generally means the prices are more atractive/affordable for me

also for a third i actually like the worn,used look,because to me thats what a old war weapon should look like

Congrats Dave & welcome to the forum! I think your Luger has character! I have a DWM 1915 that is in very similar shape. Just be warned, you are now susceptible to the highly addictive disease known as "Lugeritis" !

An honest gun you can be proud of. The only problem is few people can stop at just one. Next thing you know you will be buying books(highly recommended) then comes the gun shows. And lastly you start spending a lot of time on the Luger Boards, ---wait you are already here!!

lol,,,,thanks guys,im already past the point of no return,and am already plotting my second,might have to wait until after the holidays,but i can see why they are addictive,i have a hard time setting this one down

i havnt gotton into reloading as yet,and a friend said cast handloads would be best,but what commercial loads would be safe (if any) for both myself,and the weapon to put a couple through the ole girl

i have a Ruger P93 that takes the same round,and i believe i have some 148 gr HP's on hand for home defense,i know i have them,but only "pretty sure" they are 148 gr,its been awhile since i bought them and plinked everything but two clips worth for the house,would these be too hot,they seem pretty hot in the Ruger

The Wally Mart Winchester 9 mm ammo in the 100 round bulk pack (about $11) works well in most Lugers and doesn't break the bank. I like this ammo so much I bought a Colt 1911 in 9 mm for practice.

thank you very much AGE,i'll head into town tomorrow and get some,thats pretty reasonable,i think what i have here was like $20 for 40 rds,not actually plinking ammo,but $11 for 100 is very reasonable,i'll get a few boxs,and run some through the P93,the Luger,and the P38

picked up 200 rds today and took the Luger and my P38 out in the back yard to see what they would do

i have to say,i found the P38 a better pistol all around,smoother,less recoil,better balance,and i shot better groups with it,and it was the first time i shot either so it wasnt i was use to one and not the other

Where are you located in WV? I spend much of each summer in Philippi at our daughter's place--FL gets hot and the hurricanes can be bad.
