Default Question about Russian Lugers

I have been looking at the various postings and references on Russian Lugers and am having trouble understanding what model of rifle is being shown on the chamber?

On many examples there appears to be a short stocked rifle with a gas chamber much like a SKS or AK. To the best of my knowledge (which is limited) no such guns ever existed. I know there are fakes out there; do you believe the artist who created the roll die did not know what rifles of that period looked like or is the opposite true and that the artist of today is getting confused?

Thanks

Vern

Below is a picture of some Russian Mosin Nagant rifles; roll dies are known for their detail and this is where I am having problems; the detail is simply not there on the chamber markings I have seen.

Please note the arrangement of the top hand guard and the sling arrangements then compare to any of the Russian Lugers finding there way onto the market. There are some discrepancies.

Are these guns legitimate? Maybe, some look not to have been messed with.
Did DWM apply the chamber markings? I have serious doubts.

I know this is pretty hard criticism from a new collector; I am just trying to understand.
