Portland, Oregon gun show

The Portland gun show this weekend has quite a number of Lugers.

Bill Knapp has a table this show, I didn't get a chance to do a detailed list (will try to do that tomorrow), but he has more than a dozen including a really nice 1906AE and the most fantastic 1917 LP-08 with a real matching mag I have ever seen (at a correspondingly fantastic price); some Imperial and some Third Reich pistols; a 12-inch barrel Commercial Artillery based on a 1917 Erfurt, with a really interesting Artillery holster which has been extended for the barrel.

On another table there is a pretty nice 1937 S/42 (strawed variation) with a "matching" mag, holster, and tool for $2395; also a 1900 AE which I believe is restored, for over $5k.

There is also a Vopo based on a 1918 frame and an S/42 toggle train, poorly reblued, expensive for a Luger to shoot at $795 but my guess is that by Sunday he will take a lower offer.

An update on the Lugers on Bill Knapp's table:

1917 Erfurt with commercial artillery barrel, pretty nice $1,800

1936 S/42, 6" .30 aftermarket barrel, really nice target grips, $1,100

The 12" commercial artillery I mentioned in the first post $2,500

.30 Commercial, mismatch (an Imperial conversion), reblue, re-proofed c/N, ground toggle, $495

Alphabet Commercial i suffix, $850

1914 Erfurt, mismatch sideplate, $1,100

1916 Erfurt $1,750

Alphabet Commercial n suffix, GERMANY mag, $950

1918/1920 DWM Police, formerly Artillery (cut on receiver top), sear safety, cut for mag safety, appears re-strawed, Police unit marked, $975

Iwas there on Sunday and was inpressed with the number of Lugers. Several had stock/holsters that were hollowed out like those for a C96 Mauser broomhandle. Were those aftermarket and if so, how legal are they? I will confess to total ignorance on that subject.

I also look forward to your August visit. Several of us will have to get together for another shoot. Looking at the schedule, there is a local local show August 12-13. It is much smaller than the Portland show but if you are here on those dates it might be worth going to.

The hollow stocks are aftermarket and your questioning of their legality is apt.

I don't know what show is the 12-13, but the Oregon Military Collector's annual all-weekend show is August 19-20, it is -definitely- worth the visit.

Steve, the hollowed out type Luger stocks are NOT on the ATF's C&R exemption list for the National Friearms Act of 1934... I wouldn't go near them, even though some collectors say they are a reproduction of an early model stock... they aren't worth the risk without an ATF exemption letter in your hand... IMNSHO...

That is what I thought when I first saw them. Besides being very expensive, who wants to risk 10 years in prison.

The August 12-13 show is at the Washington County fairgrounds in Hillsboro. I will have to mark the other one on my calendar.
