store a Luger? How do you store your pistols? Of course I clean, lub and wipe down with silicone. What container, etc., to store in? Ho do you prepare yours? I know, pretty basic questions but I would like opinions.

Hi Chuck, Are you talking long term storage? Or just between fondlings?

I like to look at them very often! I was thinking of some kind of wooden case or other breathable container. Now I just have them laying on oily rags in a desk drawer.

Chuck,
What ever you do don't let the grips get saturated with oil. The oil will break down the fibers in the wood and they will get crumbly. The best way would probably be to put them upside down. Balanced on the sights in a sturdy dry cabinet. And just wipe the metal down with an oiled rag after handling them. Put some desicant packets in the cabinet to absorb moisture. These are the little packets of silica that come packed with electronics. They even put them in bags of pork rinds and other food products, marked "do not eat". Just make sure they do not touch the pistols. Ron

I use USPS small priority mail boxes turned inside out. A 4" Luger just fits. I write the mdl and SN on the end and stack them 4 high inside the safe. Makes it easy to find the one you want to fondle.

Thanks for the info. I didn't consider the grips as a possible issue. Thanks again!

Hugh,
I'm sorry, but as a loyal and dedicated Ex-Postal Employee I'm afraid I'll have to report this to the proper authorities. They'll probably put a Whoopy Cushion in your mail box. ![]() Ron

Hugh, Cardboard is hydroscopic (will absorb moisture) and is probably not a good idea in a humid area. TH

I totally agree with Tom (lugerdoc)!! The solution is to wrap the pistol in a plastic baggie before you put it in the paper box. If you want to get a bit more fancy, you could use Bob Spatola's Boxes:
Robert Spatola Robert's Arms Specilties Route 2, Box 773 Harpers Ferry, WV 25425-9428 rspatola@earthlink.net 304-728-4472 www.protectagun.com They fit the Luger a little bit better, so you can cram more pistols in the same space. You still have to use the plastic bags!! I have used these for years!! |

Ron,
I only use "used" ones, the PO likes for me to use new ones for shipping rather than recycling once used ones! More of our tax-payers dollars wasted that way! ![]() Tom, I use plenty of dissecant in my safe and have had no problems in 10 years! ![]()
