Pete, The holsters seem a bit on the steep side. While the Lugers are actually priced about right.
With a couple of exceptions.

Hi Ron,

I aggree with what you say.

Holster pricing seems to be all over the board. The folks at Simpsons have a bunch of $ 1000 or more holsters...

I guess the statement "condition, condition, condtion" applies to leather as well.

It becomes a matter of how badly a piece is wanted for a collection, my guess...

Pete, I think it's an attempt to high grade the uninformed newbies.I include myself in this statement. Luger values are fairly easy to judge. Just by watching the fast sellers on the auctions. And the lingering re-posted over priced examples. However, holster values seem to be alittle more vague. There is'nt a Blue Book of holster values. To my knowledge.

Pete, It's not an aversion. I can't find them. When I do I buy what I can when I can. However, when it comes to $200 and $300 per. I do have an aversion. I can and have bought nice holsters for alot less. Even the on-line book dealers are gouging. Let alone the ebay muggers.
BTW, you would,nt have a copy of "German Chocolate Lugers by Martha Stewart", would you? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />
I hear she'll be coming out with a book on Rasin Jack recipes soon.

I'm interresed in the 1906 Royal Portugese holster item H2, $425. Does it seem to be over priced if it really is in exc. condition? I have one now thats in need of repairs;small surface cracks and tears and some missing stitches. I didn't pay much for it. Would I be better off sending it to Jerry Burney or taking a chance
on this one?

I purchased three holsters from them a couple of years ago. The holsters were a bit over described as to condition, thereby making the price somewhat high for what I received.

Hi Mike,

I suspect even an excellent conditioned "AE" holster priced at $ 425 is quite high.

But you know how it goes with truly excellent holsters.

I found an immaculate Swiss holster I wanted in my collection. I thought a price of $300 was about as much as I wanted to pay. But the owner insisted on $ 375.

Needless to say, he got my extra $ 75...as I did not want to loose it and the Owner knew he would eventually sell it, if not to me...

My experience is more like Tom and Lew's. Very nice folks but prone to "over-rate" their items. Earlier this year met them at a show to have a look at a couple of pieces from their site, all described as 98-99%, not a one over 85-90% by the most generous of standards.

What about sending mine to Jerry? I would love to save this holster and it's history. It has stamps under the top flap: lrg. (A) (5) (D) and a small stamp which is hard to make out. Looks like an (M) with something sitting on top of it just like proof marks on a luger. Maybe C/M or 2/M for King Manuel II? What do these stamps indicate? Of course it has the (AE) on the back which I was told is an arsenal stamp.
I know that refurbished collectables decrease in value but if it would be less to let Jerry repair it, I'm sure I'd be happy with it and probably never sell it.
How often do you see a nice one for sale for less than $425.

The value of refurbished collectables depends on various factors. I have seen instances where the value is increased after Jerry refurbishes it.

Mike, write him direct, his email and address is in every posting he makes. He has been very busy recently and with his wife's broken leg, doing other chores.

Also, if say the rear straps are gone, it might be worth $50, but with a period like fix for the straps, it is now worth a lot more.

I think a crappy repair will make it worth less, an excellent repair like Jerry does, increases the value.

I bought a 41 P.08 holster from them for $350, absolutely authentic and was as described. Gil Hoffman is OK to deal with, is reasonable and fair. Big negative by him not taking pictures of guns.
