I have an unusual Weimar Luger with some markings on it that I have no idea what they could be. The Luger is a police gun with a sear safety and the mag safety clipped. The serial number of the gun is 8662 R, and has a property number on the front grip strap of S.M. 740. It has a 1935 dated police holster matched to the gun with S.M. 740 on it as well as the tool, S.M. 740, and the two wood magazines are numbered 740, but without a 1 or 2. Kind of unusual to use the property number on everything rather than the serial number of the gun.


My question is the proofs. It has what looks like a Prussian Eagle on the barrel, receiver, and breech -- this looks kinda like a Simson eagle. The odd marks are on the right receiver where there is a GL and a 6 underneath the GL. The gun and rig is all original and shows use, being in about 90% original condition. Does anyone have any idea what this GL -6 could be? Is it some sort of Simson proofs? Thanks --
