Post P-xx Release Date Stamping...

Here is a bit of a discussion thread about the P-xx release date stamping seen on many Swiss lugers.

In the discussion thread I mentioned that, in the USA, the presence of these stamps would not be as desiralbe as a Swiss luger without. Some of the Swiss members of the discussion board, offered up a different opinion.

Thought folks here might like to learn about another view point. Here is the message posting :

" I do not agree with the statement by Pete that a Luger without a "P" is more desirable. Also a "P" does normally not mean the weapon was sold to the public it normally means that the personal weapon of a soldier was given to him after his active service period ended. This event was marked on the weapon with a "P" for privatized and
the year it happens. So any swiss gun without the the"P" stamp is a weapon the previous was not interested in or not issued to a soldier. In my opinion a Luger which was issued to a young officer and well kept until the end of his service and than privatized with a "P" and given to him as a present from the swiss government is for me a valuable piece of history with more value than an unwanted turned in piece which was finally sold as surplus. "

Here is the link to the entire discussion, which only briefly touched on the P-date stamping issue...
