Ortgies

Ran across a late production Ortgies in 7.65 mm today at the LGS/Range. Came home to research it, it appears to be a decent example for a fair price. I'm not all hot and bothered to acquire it, but if it sits there long enough, I might bite.

On the off chance its still there the next time or two, is there anything in particular I should watch out for? Bad cell picture:

Yes. There are no screws in an Ortgies; grips are held on by clever spring loaded catch. If they're damaged, it's from someone trying to pry them off.

Last produced around 1926. Finish described as excellent.

A .32 Ortgies is on my short list. If you need a disassembly guide, I can copy it for you.

The Ortgies is a rather unusual pistol.

I have one that probably came from a German merchant mariner. It was "decorated" with inlaid German and Imperial Chinese coins.

A few years ago, I helped prepare the Ortgies instruction manual as a high resolution PDF from scans provided by Francis on this board...

As Rich mentions, someone had forced the grips off this gun and then epoxied them onto the frame! The location is very hard to get to, but I eventually removed the epoxy, re-inlaid a piece of matching walnut and rebuilt them...
