Like Mr Watters, I also remember this Luger. I even have a Martini Cadet rear sight, which I presumably got for a conversion like this. But I made my .25 wildcat on the 30 Mauser case. And barreled a C96 for it.

A .22 barrel converted to the 30 Luger case??? Where would you get .22 bullets??? Is there such a thing as a .22 cal kinetic bullet puller???
![]() ![]() Maybe a severely shortened .223 Remington die set??? That would be do-able...Use .223 Remington cases suitably shortened, run through the 223 Rem shortened die set, and cut the chamber with a 223 Rem reamer... ![]() I say, go for it!!! ![]()

its set up as a 22 LR but it needs modification - I have no skills like that and all my 'friends' who do, say they are too busy ;-0

Thank you for posting this. I don't recall ever seeing this Luger. These kind of handguns fascinate me, and the skill that some people have for producing them. It really is one fine looking Luger.

Back to the article...It is probably a typo, where it says it is rifled with one turn in one inch....That's a hell of a spin...
![]() I have never seen/heard of a tapered octagonal barrel...That must have been a bear to get the bore centered... ![]()

I am not sure if it was an ancient GUNS magazine, or GUNS & AMMO, or maybe even SHOOTING TIMES, but the old, (and now late) writer and gunsmith named Skeeter Skelton (a contemporary of George C. Nonte) did a .22 wildcat in a Luger, and I am pretty sure it was based on the .30 Luger case that was necked down to .22 and he used .22 hornet sized bullets...
I don't have that magazine anymore, I am sure it was from the late 1960's or early 1970's... I lost most of my paper gun magazine holdings in a basement flood decades ago... But I remember the article for sure! maybe one of you guys has an old cache of those magazines?

Interesting cartridge, wouldn't mind seeing that hit the market.
