It seems appropriate at this passing of an age to write a few words in memorial of the $300 Luger. Never again will the three be found in the hundreds column except for dug battlefield relics, rusted solid. Sadness fills my heart as I longingly say goodby to the cheap shooter.
In a recent post I recalled a Sarco ad for $375 Lugers. That was incorrect, they were $395. The ad must have been in the November 1 (subscription date) Shotgun News because I found all issues going back through November 10 without locating the original ad. The second and last ad was in the December 20 Shotgun News. Sarco offered "a small lot" of East German reworks with Sarco repro grips and repro wood bottom mags. 60 to 80 percent reblue were $395 and the price had gone up to $475 on 90 percent reblue. With a dealer price of $395 plus shipping you may see these at gunshows for $500-$600 or more. Farewell, cheap shooter! You will be greatly missed. |
