Need help with gun Id

I have a Luger that I got from my grandfather. He was an MP station in Germany during WWII. I need help with the particulars and worth of this gun so I can insure it. All numbers match. Ser# is 2030 with a b under it. One Mag matches, the other does not. Also has a holster. Thank for helping out a new Luger owner.

Well, at one time it was a police Luger [sear safety]...Magazine safety has been filled in/removed...Can you take a pic of the mag bottom and any marks on the sides of the mag???

Your Luger was manufactured in 1921 by Deutsche Waffen- und Munitionsfabriken in Berlin under a government contract. It was among the last 9-mm Lugers produced by DWM until about 1928-29. It was issued to the Schutzpolizei (state police) of Berlin, Luger # 10679. The holster is from WWII. Since there is no photo of the front, I can't tell if it is a police or military holster.

Thanks for the Info. Here are some other pics. The one mag has a 3 at top 2030 in center and an s with some sort of starburst symbol, with no other markings on the sides. the second has ser# etc on bottom and it looks like a warbird symbol with a 37 under it (cant get a good pic)

Hi James, and welcome to the Forum.

I can't make out much detail in your pictures either. It will be much more accurate if we can see sharp pictures with more detail. Take them in indirect sunlight (shade outdoors) and use the closeup setting on your camera (looks like a little flower symbol). Manual focus if you can, otherwise ensure it focuses on the gun and not the background. Use a tripod.

I think I can see the light halos around the serial number on your barrel. If everything matches (either the four digits or the last two digits) and the finish is original, at about 90%, I would guess that the Luger is worth $1500 with a matching magazine. Irf any part isn't matching, drop the value 40%. If any part is not in original finish, you'd drop it the same amount. Looks like you've got the million dollar chip on the left grip near the safety lever. That drops value some. If you have the capture papers (issued by your grandfather's unit officer) add $50-100.

The extra original WW-II magazines are worth $100-150 each.

The holster, which appears original, is about $200-250.

As postino mentions, this was built as a police pistol, and is one of the last made by the original DWM before it was absorbed into Mauser. The E/37 magazines are military magazines, as is the holster. They date from just before WW-II.

Nice Luger. With its family history, it's much more valuable than $$$!

thanks for all the help. these values will be a good ballpark for what I need for insurance policy. You are right on Family history. I was told by my father before he passed away that my grandfather was an MP and had to shoot the man with this gun during a situation at some type of check point. I was wondering if it could be true being a police issue but this is the holster it was in and with it being military maybe its more accurate than I thought.

IMHO, ballpark with holster and magazines is $1500.

Things were so chaotic in Berlin at the end of the war almost anyone may have acquired the pistol and holster separately and have gotten into an altercation with your grandfather.
