I took my luger out to shoot the other day and discovered that the locking bolt will not lock any longer when the breech is open. It only stays in the proper position when the breech is closed and the gun is loaded. I am a newbie when it comes to lugers, but I believe I discovered the problem. Last time I disassembled it, somehow the locking bolt spring came out and I didn't notice it

I guess I should add that it is a 1940 P08. I can't find a illustration of where the spring goes. I know it's a noob mistake, but I had no idea the spring was even in there, so I have no idea how to put the new one in.

The little end of the "L" shaped spring goes through the hole in the frame and will protrude slightly. The long end lies in the recess at the bottom of the takedown lever hole and the bump in that spring leg fits into a recess on the bottom of the takedown lever...
This is hard to explain without photos, but I don't have access to my photo library from here. Perhaps this answer can be found on the YOUTUBE videos on Luger disassembly that have been generously posted there by one of our members...

I have checked out the videos on youtube, but I could not find one that showed any detail of the spring and its placement.
