sideplate woes 2

tried all sorts of ways but this sideplate wont allow the take down lever to lock onto it -even with just the frame , see what you experts think

The "arm" of the side plate appears to be bent up a bit. But the most common reason for the TD lever not wanting to close fully, is that the rear edge of the side plate is not fully seated into the frame. How about a side view, showing the rear of side plate to frame connection. Lugerdoc

hi police luger and lugerdoc, its exactly the same with trigger assy removed , the rear lip fits in snugly where it meets the grip and also at the frame rail its just at the takedown lever , could the trigger lever be the culprit as it stands proud of the sideplate casing by a bit [2-3 mm], its my only sideplate

This appears to be a replacement sideplate and possibly even a reproduction sideplate and will require more fitting. Either the sideplate tab is too thick to go under the takedown lever (will have to be thinned down) or the takedown lever is bent toward the frame and won't allow the sideplate lever to go under it... (you can bend it SLIGHTLY up...to try and allow the lever to fit over the sideplate tab.)

The sideplate tab should be a tight but slide fit under the locking takedown lever.

Is it possible that the lower arm of the transfer lever is too long? It is hard to tell from the photos provided, but if the top left corner of the side plate is very square and not rounded over it is an early model (1900) side plate. The lower arm of an early model transfer lever is much shorter than a new model. So if you have a new model transfer lever in an old model side plate it might produce what you are seeing.

Find out what is pushing the side plate upwards by eliminating various parts that interfere with plate each time you mate plate with the frame. Once you locate culprit find exact spot and figure out why. I would start first with bare frame with nothing attached to it. Than keep adding parts. If it doesn’t fit right on the frame than you know your answer right away. It is the plate itself. You get idea?

Can you show us a picture of the inside the plate?

Ditch that sideplate and get a proper DWM or Mauser-made example. It'll drop in place without problems. Even the Postwar Mauser Parabellum sideplates won't give you this much trouble.

One thing I've learned after 10 years of restoring cars. Repro usually s*cks.

I agree with post #6 & 7 above. Remove the L-shaped trigger lever in the sideplate and see if you can satisfactorily install the sideplate... If you can, the lever is incorrect for this sideplate and pistol.

many thanks to all who replied, ill try the trigger lever check john and go from there but will endeavour to get a correct mauser sideplate , it is arepro plate and i should have known better but original parts are non existant hereabouts . oh well

Years ago I bought a replacement repro sideplate from Gun parts Corp. I ran into precisely the trouble that is being described.
After days of working with it I determined that it would literaly require machining to get it to fit. Too much trouble for what it was worth. I ended getting a period replacement side plate and it dropped right in.
The repros literally appear sand cast from a mold taken from an original. Far too out of spec to drop in with mere filling.

BW, Not all repro side plates are created equal. This one looks a bit crude. I do have a few vg originals available, if you care to order. TH at hellerarms@webtv.net

Tom is correct. I have one of his better reproductions and use it for shooting my LP08, as it's original side plate/trigger lever had a very creepy trigger pull as a bonus. The new plate dropped into place, appears like it has always been there and works like a charm.
