Default writing Luger Erfurt

Hello
I've found the following writing on the butt-end my Luger Erfurt (year 1916):

S.B.W. IV. .115.

Anyone knows what does it mean?

thank you
bye marco

Hi Marco,

The mark translates to: Schutzpolizei ( Municipal police) Berlin West 4th Centuria (district) weapon #115

Hi Marco and welcome to the forum.

The pistol was probably used throughout World War II.

I notice that you left a space between the W and the 115. Is it really an empty space or something crossed out?

To add to what Ron said, W.IV. indicates the pistol was from either the Spandau or Zehlendorf districts of Berlin.

I collect data on these police marked pistols and would appreciate knowing the serial number and suffix of this one and whether or not it has or had sear or mag safeties.
