I'm not sure, but I think I know her.

Hey Ed,
Wonder if she got wet in the follow-up photo... ![]() She also missed the opportunity to shoot the Jersey white shark in the back ground that was swimming up the intercoastals and ate a kid or two.. Info link : http://www.elasmo-research.org/educa...j_maneater.htm |

No, she's just trying to see how far a bullet travels.

Aaron, Actually the best way to do that is to shoot downstream. You can see the bullet strike the water really well.
Has to be about themid- late 20's the way her hair & clothes are. Jerry Burney

Jerry,
It's against the law to shoot onto navigatable water, except with a shotgun. Here in Louisiana anyway. Mike C.

Mike, Yes I was aware of this. It's not too smart either for a number of reasons but the key is navigatable water. I have had some fun with this in AZ in the long straight canals. These are about 75-100 ft wide and go for miles, straight as an arrow. Lets you see how far a pistol will shoot. Of course no one boats on these or anything plus in the desert you can see if anyone is around.
Anyway..shooting in MOST water is still not a good idea...Thanks! Jerry

Good trigger discipline. I like to see these old photos.

Alx -
The "maximum range" of any bullet will depend on a variety of factors. However, there is no way a 9mm Luger cartridge will launch a bullet "8,000 meters" and/or about "5 miles". As a rule of thumb, remember that a 30-06 rifle when elevated at a 45 degree angle will launch its bullet about 5 miles. Here's one educated "ball park" figure for the 9mm Luger: NRA Firearms Fact Book. Yew York. Second Edition. 1983. "â?¦ a 9 mm 120 grain bullet fired out of an average sized handgun at 45 degrees elevation will travel about 2300 meters before falling." Other sources will say its about 1800 meters. But you get the idea. And this is not the "maximum effective range" which is much shorter, and is the range at which you can reasonable expect to still hit your target, among other things. Interesting story about judging distance by using a canal. I doubt think it would work with the ocean, but calm lakes would also work, provided no one is out there.
