Default C&R Renewal

This subject has been discussed on several previous posts with pro and con replies.

I recently attempted to renew my C&R. I filled out the application as per instructions, or so I thought, and sent it off with the fee. A week later I got it back with a cover letter indicating that I filled it out incorrectly. I answered two of the "yes / no" questions wrong. "Gastro-neurological impulse".

Also as before, I didn't send a copy of the application to my local law enforcement office. I had an 01 FFL for several years and never did this as it was not required by my local agencies. And didn't do it when I got my first C&R. And assumed that it was proper procedure. I corrected the answers, sent a copy of the application to the Lane County Sheriff's office. Marked it sent to "Lane Co, Sheriff" and mailed it off again.

About 2 weeks later I received a phone message from BATF saying that they needed the "Name" of the Lane Co. Sheriff on the application. I got busy and forgot to call back.

Yesterday I received the application back in the mail with another cover letter saying the same thing. So, I put his name on it and it's going back today.

The point that I'm getting to is that, as much as I have heard about what a P.I.A. the BATF can be. Is that they went to every extent to see to it that I received my C&R and all was done correctly.

They could have just said, "You're too dumb to have one. You don't know how to fill out the application. So we're just not going to bother." Instead, they went the extra mile...

I have gained a new respect for them, inspite of the horror stories that I have heard over the years.
