This site is filled with an unbelieved amount of information. I just read that the Luger Carbine frame I bought is a DWM 1908 American Eagle in .30cal that was converted to Carbine at some time. If my vision is correct, it is a type V short frame.
I don't know what type parts I need. Carbine, PO8, early or late. Can someone help me. Thank you.

duane, post pictures of your frame here on this forum, then folks can help you. Otherwise it is a giant guess.

I seem to be getting nothing but bad news about this carbine frame (fire damage, Martz conversion). I may have just thrown away 1K for junk. My Luger experience is really starting to suck.

that is why the forum is here. There are authors of books on this forum and folks with 30-50 years experience, plus many eyes to catch possible "bad" things.
As the saying goes, buy books before guns. Study, ask questions, etc. I doubt you'd buy an "ole" speedboat before checking her out ahead of time, same with lugers ![]() I personally think it would be better to start with a mostly there carbine or the like, and have it restored. A frame is fine, but all those correct parts to gather... I did wonder at the Ad on Adam's website; "fresh from Mexico..." Its a frame. A frame is the part that is controlled by the gov't... So actually if true, I "believe" it should have gone through the import process and I believe be import marked. Ed |

Your right Mr. Tinker, spending a hundred dollars or more on books would have told me the frame "might" be fire damaged and books would also tell me when and "possibly" who converted the frame to a Carbine. Is there a book that will tell me these things? I seriously doubt it. Or, I should have spent another 1K+ in airfare, rental car, food, etc. to New Mexico and inspected first hand eventhough I couldn't take it with me because I'm out of State. Or, I could have imposed myself on a Luger expert in New Mexico to inspect it for me. If the Luger frame was brought back to the USA from Mexico without the proper paperwork (luggage bringback) there would be no import marks. It is much easier than you may think. There are guns in the USA which have never been recorded in any fashion. It depends what circles of people you know.
No, if the frame is discovered to be worthless and I cannot return it, I will cut it to keep it out of circulation and make it a paperweight. What I don't need is condescending attitudes from people concerning what I should or should not have done which is hindsight. Mr. Adams webpage link is in this forum and I choose to believe that you Luger "experts" would have checked him out before adding his link to protect the members. I hope for the best but prepare for the worst. My original question, "I don't know what type parts I need. Carbine, PO8, early or late.", was never answered. Nuff Said. I think I'm about done with this forum and Lugers. Take care all.

??????????? I am sorry if my last posting was taken wrongly, it was not meant that way.
That wasn't meant as a rebuke so... I did a search and found that you posted about boats, so I was trying to include you, not exclude you? http://www.g503.com/forums/viewtopic...b196bac53e6dcd Heck, I don't know what kind of parts you need, and many folks don't either. They made 500 variations of lugers, and most folks don't know carbines, as they are Expensive. I can't afford one, so I do not know what parts are there, that are different from a regular luger? Most of the collectors on the forum are normal working guys, a carbine is a dream and maybe the few who know and have them are on Christmas vacation with their kids ![]() I suggested pictures because there were several carbine types made, one is an early type, the other a later type, so a picture from you was required. If you have a C&R license (many collectors do), then yes, you could take it with you, from state to state. I asked about the Adams claim, because I thought it odd, as from out of the country claim, I "believe" requires an import license, but I do not know if for "antiques" and they may claim it as an antique, again I do not know. Sorry if I claimed I was an expert, I am not, just a moderator trying to help. However, I do apoligize, it was not meant as a rebuke and possibly I wrote rashly, it was not meant to flame or irritate you ![]() |

Bob Adams does offer a return within certain time limits. Here is the sales ad text : " 01862. $ 995 (Curio & Relic) Available A very unusual DWM Luger CARBINE frame, serial number 55029. Recently brought in from Mexico where it was found in with parts from an old gunsmith. Short Frame! Unique "T" shaped forend bar. Grip safety. It appears to be a legit carbine frame that has suffered from neglect. About 35-40% original blue, with remainder covered with surface rust. Safety, hold-open and coil mainspring intact, but frozen with rust. This would be ideal for restoration of a carbine. Unusual oval markings behind sideplate (see picture). Endless possibilities! " |

Listen Ed, I'm extremely ill and my time left is quite short. I apologies for anything said that offended. I seem to have lost patience in standard conversation and wanted direct answers so I could start and hopefully finish this project. Even if not for me, my family. Yes, I collect Military vehicles (M29C), have owned and restored boats from 11' to 38', restored 9 motorcycles, 2 AMX's and built 2 houses. Anyone can buy a Luger Carbine. My goal is to restore a Carbine so that the world count of Carbines would increase even by just one. Also, so my family will have something that truely meant something to me. Maybe it's just an old mans dream but I'm working on it.
I did send an email asking Bob Adams about possible fire and individual conversion instead of a German Company conversion. I also asked for copies of import papers from him or the friend who has the frame on consignment. If there is a Luger expert that lives near Chantilly Virginia who would look at the frame before I sign for it, I would appreciate the effort. I am willing to pay for the advice. Pick-up is at the Blue Ridge Arsenal. Again, I apologies and appreciate everyones input whether good or bad. Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas
