History help 1916 Luger - Page 2

I thought it was a pretty clear "i", as an "l" does not have a dot over it!

Let's see if I can explain this clearly,
In 1916 DWM started with serial 1 without a suffix, and went to 10000 without suffix,
then started at 1 again with an "a", and so on up to 1 with an "i" suffix yours is the 2831st pistol in the "i" suffix, or the 92,831st pistol produced in 1916 by DWM; the last pistol in the "i" suffix would have been the 100,000 st. pistol. I don't know how many DWM produced that year, but it is in one of the reference books.

I thought the proof stamps, serial number, and suffix were particularly clean and easy to read.
How did you take the photos ?

You should be able to find more of the two digit numbers in as many as 11 places on the pistol, such as the end of the toggle, the locking bolt, the side plate, and the firing pin assembly.

Thank you. Photos were made with a macro lens, camera on a tripod, and off camera flash with a small soft box.
