Great! That would make for a very Merry Christmas. I'm optimistically awaiting photos.

Not necessarily so. Eugene Golubtsov may well have been referring to the Russian Orthodox Christmas which will be celebrated on January 7th 2016. Also, his work on Ed's carbine will not be interrupted by a New Year's day hangover, that holiday will be on January 14th.
Regards, Norm

No. I don't take specific period of time of a year for vacation. I take vacation every week ... probably every week is an overstatement.. say, every month, that's more accurate.

But this reveals one thing -- he got lots of business. That's the only way to interpret this slowness. He's overloaded.

Really?
That's a stretch, may mean he is just slow.

Sorry, but there is no excuse to take 1 year for such a project,
much less two or three, JMHO.

Just a guess. I don't know him.

Or, he got another better paid job, so don't have time on these gun projects.

Otherwise, how to interpret he not only lives normally, but also has spare money to travel... the cost of traveling is much higher than staying at home.

Of course, there are other possibilities, e.g. inherited some money, invested into correct ticker symbols, or won lottery, etc, etc.

There is no such thing as work overload when you are a one man enterprise. You either accept that work which you can reasonably complete, or you do what I suspect Eugene does, which is to accept every project that comes along, hold it hostage and deliver whenever you can.
His reputation has suffered accordingly because of this.
