Default Re: for some reason, early 1900 Lugers...

Many of the early Lugers had the frame relieved to use the later type magazines with the raised button rather than just the flat button mags.

I have a four digit 1900 AE that only wants to take the original magazine. I have found that the early magazines were turned in more at the top in the area of the folded seam. There is about .010 difference in the width at the top of the magazine, and this is where they seem to want to bind.
