You are right, it was described to me as a bulge in the center from not cleaning thoroughly after using corrosive ammunition. Though this is something that has been in the gun for at least 40 years, as I do not think it has been fired since about 1965. I'm not sure about a straw color, they all look to be the same dark blued color to my unexperienced eyes, though it is shiny around the edges where it has seen holster wear. I really do need to get some better photos up, will get on those when I can. Thanks guys.
