Hello,
I have some historical pictures where German soldiers wear the LP08 holster directly on the belt. It was a sort of "customization" made by soldiers. This only to say that, there are some evidences that the LP08 was carried on the belt. Of course this doesn't mean that the modification at your holster was done in the WWI.
