Can anybody give me the approximate value of a Luger that I have an opportunity to buy?
It was a WW2 war trophy brought home (supposedly). The finish is approximately 80%. The manufacturer is DWM? On the front is just before the barrel is the number 1918. It comes with 2 mags and a Nazi holster that has the eagle and swastika on a medallion. Any help appreciated. Thanks |

Well, 1918 was the year the pistol was made. It was very likely a WWI pistol (but that is not to say it couldn't have been used in WWII, also, but most that were left over were reworked and would have a different date). The holster, as issued, would not have had a medallion on it (probably added at a later date). Without seeing it, it is hard to really estimate it's condition, configuration or value. A standard issue, 80% WWI Luger would sell fairly for $675-750. The price can be influenced by the magazines, matching and correct, and the holster's condition and date.

Paul,
many times the Medallion you speak of was added by a soldier to dress-up his "prize he brought back from the war. Normally this does no add any value to the rig unless there is some type documentation about it. Also, it normally does not detract from the value if the holster is sold with the pistol. If the holster was sold seperatly, the value of the holster would drop by approx. 25%. Crazy, but true when something is added to the holster. Many of the WWI pistols were used during WWII. The recent imported Lugers from Russia contained a number of the WWI dated pistols. Marvin |
