Default Question???

On some Simson accepted magazines you will find aluminum bottoms, were these bottoms cast like the Mauser bottoms or were they machined out of solid aluminum?....till...later....G.T.

Hi Gerry, I don't have any loose Simson mag bottoms at the moment, but I can remove one or two from the mags for you to inspect, if you so desire. Tom

I have seen some cast alloy bottoms but, for some reason, it sticks in my mind that they were usually on repro mags. What is the story on cast vs. milled alloy bottoms?

Hi Bill, I have seen several original Simson E/6 accepted alum. mag. bottoms and for the most part, they were crudely machined bottoms. The tooling that made them was evidently dull and not lubricated, as tool marks and tearing is evident if you look close, they were sanded or polished a little on the concave ends, but not much of an attempt at quality contol is evident.... I have seen later cast bottoms identical to Mauser, with an s in a circle mark on them, I would assume they acquired these as they became available and existing stocks of wood and machined aluminum ones dried up! Perhaps some of our collector members might be able to enlighten us further.....till...later...G.T.
