Hi Sid,

I have both Simi-chrome and Flitz at home. I like Filtz as it seems it has less abrasive "grit" in the paste.

I use Flitz only to do the "testing" as Tom Armstrong and others on the LF have suggested in past postings. Usually on small areas that are hidden...just to see if some old oxidation/rust is there. If you see rust on the white rag or Q-tip; this is not 100% guarantee that the gun is original finsh...there is still the possiblity it was refinished years ago and has gained some patina/rust with the passing of time. But seeing some patina/rust and looking for other traits of "originality" makes the investigation more thorough.

On my shooters, however, I have use Flitz over the entire guns. You cannot believe how much rust comes off and the original bluing stays intact. Leaves a very nice "luster" to my shooters...I have even done so on my modern-day shooters (1990's to 1980's pistols...); making them all look great.

p.s. Forgot to mention, I use the "Liquid Metal Polish" Flitz product...seems to be a diluted form of their paste products...

Regards,

Pete... <img border="0" alt="[typing]" title="" src="graemlins/yltype.gif" />
