Hakan is absolutely right about stainless steel being one of the worst materials to try and make a gun from. As he said, stainless steel does not like to work against itself and has a tendency to gall if not properly lubricated. The makers alleviate some of this problem by using a very low grade of stainless steel, and by keeping tolerances on the loose side. On the plus side, you can refinish your own pistol with just a roll of abrasive cloth.
