Thanks, I have recently acquired an interest in them as I think you can still find nice examples for short money. Another collector has informed me via private email that the IVU marking is actually (4U) for the 4th technical control unit of the FAG applied during fascist control. It is where the gun was inspected, the MR is the inspectors initials.

The 1944 dated, 1935 Berettas have a 4UT marking (which we are more familiar with) on the grip tang which has the same meaning but applied under the Nazi occupation of the Beretta factory.
