Strawed Extractors

Several threads down we were discussing strawed extractors. I just returned from Ralph's (OK Teedoor, start your drool) and saw several Prime 1900 Lugers with strawed extractors. Ralph told me that was the only factory strawed extractor of which he was aware. (OK Teedoor, drool off)

Hi Folks,

With good reason. Strawing is not a finish, but the result of the heat treatment given to the small parts most exposed to abrasive wear; it's intended to produce a file hard surface to reduce abrasive wear. The down side to this heat treatment is it increases the brittleness of the treated part and decreases that part's ability to withstand shock. The extractor is subject to more shock than abrasion, and hence was not heat treated in the same way as were the strawed parts.

The Model 1902 also used a strawed extractor.

Extractors might just be the most unique part on the whole pistol. Anyone ever hear of an extractor collection? I know of people who specialize in holsters, loading tools, magazines, etc. but would be interested to know if anyone has a collection of unique extractors.

Being in the the parts business, I think that I've had most all of them at one time (Geladen, Dutch -- Geladen on both sides, Loaded, Portugese -- Carregada, Bulgarian -- pie-b-lamda-EHb, Russian -- 3AP-reversed R- pie-b). The only one that I can recall not having is the Turkish -- oats marked. Have I forgotten any? I currently still have a couple of "Loaded" marked ones in stock @$75 each, if any one is interested.
