The two snipers in question were Vassili Zietsev on the Soviet side, and Major Koenig on the German side. And the movie you are thinking about is called Enemy at the Gates. A very good movie, but I thought the end was preposterous when Koenig (played by Ed Harris, in a very chilling role) ventured out into no-man’s land like a greenie just to look around like some yahoo. Something a real WW2 German sniper would never have done. I’ll try not to spoil the rest for anyone who has not seen this outstanding film.
