Here in the U S most auto parts stores carry it under the name "Paint Stick" it's used by car enthusiasts to high light the lettering on their tires.
When I use it taking photos of firearms, just rub it over the markings then remove the excess with "Q-TIPS", using "SIMPLE GREEN" as a solvent. S. G. is the best stuff going, for the general cleaning of firearms.
Hope you have S.G. in the UK or something thats equivalent.
The only problem I've experienced so far using "Paint Stick" is what the markings are etched rather then stamped or engraved.
I had a Chinese copy of a Walther .22 target pistol with etched markings, that gave me fits!
