Something else:

I have some lanyards lying around that probably originate from dutch KM use. These lanyards have the same attaching clip as the portugese ones and I kinda wondered about the construction of the clips, they should scratch the connector on the gun quite a bit.

Now I see the extra ring on the top picture, this all makes sense. The clip clips to the extra ring, not to the gun!
