For those not of the Vietnam era, what Kerry did by stepping up and reporting for duty strutting his Vietnam service was to reopen thirty plus years of repressed hatred harbored by possibly 2.5 million Vietnam veterans who did as they were called upon to do. He proudly and publicly aligned himself with the enemy side after his return for personal political benefit at the expense of those held as POWs, still serving in RVN, and who later were to go and sadly die. He completely misjudged the veterans. The military society has no use for anyone, especially an officer, who used his men for personal gain. His post war actions gave the enemy support and reason to continue fighting causing the death and maiming of many US servicemen. That is why the hatred is so intense and heartfelt.
