Pete,
Check your version of IE and I think that you will find that it is v5.
I would also download all of the latest updates for XP and install and download updates for IE6.
Then check my internet setting options and make sure that Java settings are correct.
I am sure that you know all of this, but it never hurts to double check.
Then I would trash everything, even if it works and go down to Gateway and purchase a 700X which really smokes.
