Portland Gun Show Report

Big gun show in Portland this weekend, 1000 tables or so. Quite a few less actually occupied (and lots non-gun). A couple of Usual Suspects not in attendance.

A decent sprinkling of Lugers, many which are repeat entries.

Singletons:

One table had an unusual 1906AE, marked Loaded on the extractor and stamped Gesichert behind the thumb safety lever. In excellent shape, with 3 mags (two good ones) . He wanted $2.7k, probably a good price.

There was a 1916 Erfurt which had been rebarralled with a 16 1/4" barrel, wood forestock attached to the barrel, came with a carbine stock, $895. A real mutant as it sits, too bad, too, because the Erfurt looked to be a good one.

He also offered me a nearly perfect byf 41 for $1195, a real bargain, I considered it briefly but its not in my direct line of interest. If I had extra money in my pocket, though...

There was one other primarily Luger table, a friend from Longview who is usually a walk-in in Portland. He had the most interesting and varied Luger table in the show.
Started off with a John Martz long-barrelled "Navy Carbine" with carbine stock. $3k

He also had a couple of repro Artillery stock rigs, two Artillery stocks w/o leather, a really nice repro Navy stock rig, one drum mag and one "faux" drum mag (the drum is non-functinal, attached to a functioning standard 8-rd.mag.). Anyone who is going to Reno next weekend will probably see some of these.

A couple of the Mausers sold during the morning, it seems like a Luger for shooting in Portland goes for $500-800. I saw one DWM mismatch walk-in who wanted more than anyone will pay him for it.

Ugly gun of the show: a nickel-plated C-96 Bolo. I dunno, my eye can accept the concept of a nickel-plated Luger, but a broomhandle, or a P-38 as I was shown the other day, just strike me as wrong.

But i digress. All-in-all not a bad show for Lugers, with more non-garden variety than usual.
